This semester, we have separate classes for those in who are in Eastern Standard Time (Toronto, New York, Montreal, Atlanta) and those who are in Pacific Standard Time (Vancouver, Los Angeles, Seattle).

Acting Essentials for Industry Success: EAST COAST CLASSES (Toronto, New York, Montreal, Atlanta) EST Class Description You’ll build essential skills for on-camera work and audition success. Each session includes tailored warm-ups, technique-building for hitting a mark, slating, and interview skills, plus commercial audition strategies covering wardrobe, headshots, and callbacks. We’ll also explore film terminology, the roles of agents and casting directors, commercial marketing insights, and essential casting platforms like Casting Networks, Actors Access, and Casting Workbook, with guidance on CAVCO, TAMAC, and EIC safety protocols. Weekly assignments are filmed for critique, with live, in-class feedback from John. You’ll work on SOC (silent on camera) auditions, one-liners, scripted commercials, and receive a brief intro to voiceover for commercials and animation. In the final weeks, we’ll polish your best work to present in front of a panel of industry professionals, equipping you to step confidently into the industry. Each Industry Professional will leave specific feedback about your performance so that you know how you are being perceived in the industry and can take proper steps to keeping competitive. Actors will engage in weekly self-tape assignments spanning a variety of genres, honing skills to meet any audition challenge with confidence and versatility. Actors will work on scenes from a wide array of genres and the audition techniques to excel with material from said genres. This program combines technical mastery, business insights, and intensive acting training with personal development, a powerful blend that has driven John’s students to excel. John will introduce a range of techniques, helping you develop a personalized acting process that maximizes your booking potential and keeps you top-of-mind with casting directors and producers.

This course is designed for actors of all levels looking to break into the voiceover industry or refine their skills. Over 12 weeks, you’ll explore essential voiceover techniques, develop dynamic characters, master the art of narration, and create a professional mini-demo reel to showcase your talent.

Through hands-on instruction, personalized feedback, and practical assignments, you’ll learn:

 - How to record high-quality audio from home and create professional slates.
- Techniques for commercial voiceover, narration, PSAs, and character work.
- How to adapt your voice for different vocal styles,  including heroes, sidekicks, and villains.

Class Description

This 12-week intensive is designed for serious actors looking to refine their skills, deepen emotional authenticity, and make bold, nuanced performance choices. Through an in-depth four-script structure, actors will work on challenging scenes tailored to their unique castability, including:

- Raw Emotional Depth – High-stakes, vulnerable performances.

- The Hero’s Strength – Playing defiance, resilience, and command.

- Witty & Charismatic – Mastering comedic timing and sharp banter
- The Complex Villain – Portraying power, manipulation, and depth.

Each script follows a three-week process:
🔹 Week 1: Text Analysis & Scene Exploration – Breaking down beats, subtext, and playing with choices
🔹 Week 2: Performance Preparation – Rehearsing with modern method techniques & refining execution
🔹 Week 3: Self-Tape Submission & Professional-Level Feedback

💡 Final Industry Showcase – Actors will present their most polished scene in a live performance or virtual industry showcase for agents, casting directors, producers, and industry guests.

By the end of the program, actors will leave with four high-quality self-tapes, sharpened on-camera and audition skills, and a clearer understanding of their strengths and range in the industry.

Student Agreement

 

I agree to show up to class on time every week. And I will notify an Act With Purpose representative of my absence. I understand if I miss a class it will be my responsibility to catch up, and there will not a make-up class for my missed time. However, if a class is canceled by Act With Purpose, there will be a make-up class.

I agree to pay the full tuition fee for the classes either through a payment plan or in a lump sum. If I choose a payment plan, I understand that the balance must be fully paid off by no later than one week prior to your showcase in order to participate in the showcase and related activities.If I have a longer-term payment plan/subscription (e.g., 6-month or 12-month plan), I agree to complete all required payments before the showcase, regardless of the original payment schedule. I acknowledge that failure to do so may result in my inability to participate in the showcase or other course-related activities.Our refund policy follows all applicable Washington State laws where our business is registered.I also understand I am not guaranteed any employment or representation from this program and showcase.

I promise to treat other Act With Purpose actors and students with respect. I promise to not bully and not display inappropriate behavior during class times. If I do not follow these rules, I will be removed from class without a refund.

I give permission to Act With Purpose and John Stevens to share my image, and audio with talent agents, casting directors, producers, directors, writers, and social media.

By submitting this form, I confirm that I have read and agree to the Student Agreement, Terms & Conditions, and Privacy Policy of Act With Purpose International.
